PSTE Wing (Pre-Service Teacher Education) – DIET
The Pre-Service Teacher Education (PSTE) Wing of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) plays a vital role in preparing competent, skilled, and reflective elementary school teachers. This wing is primarily responsible for conducting teacher education programmes such as Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.), aimed at developing quality educators for the foundational and elementary stages of schooling.
The PSTE Wing focuses on equipping prospective teachers with a strong foundation in pedagogical knowledge, subject expertise, and professional ethics. The curriculum is designed in alignment with the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and emphasizes learner-centered approaches, inclusive education, and the integration of technology in teaching-learning processes.
A key component of the PSTE Wing is its emphasis on practical training and school exposure. Student-teachers actively participate in internships, teaching practice sessions, micro-teaching, and community-based activities. These experiences help bridge the gap between theory and practice, enabling trainees to understand real classroom dynamics and challenges.
The wing also promotes holistic development by encouraging participation in co-curricular activities, seminars, workshops, and educational innovations. It fosters critical thinking, creativity, and a commitment to lifelong learning among future teachers.
Furthermore, the PSTE Wing collaborates with practicing schools, resource persons, and educational experts to ensure continuous improvement in teacher education. It also undertakes action research and reflective practices to enhance teaching effectiveness.
In essence, the PSTE Wing of DIET serves as a cornerstone for building a strong and effective elementary education system by nurturing dedicated and capable teachers who can contribute meaningfully to society.
