Introduction

The Curriculum, Material Development & Evaluation (CMDE) Wing of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of elementary education through the development, adaptation, and evaluation of curriculum and learning resources. This wing ensures that educational content remains relevant, inclusive, and aligned with the evolving needs of learners and society.

The CMDE Wing is primarily responsible for curriculum planning and enrichment in accordance with the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). It works to contextualize national and state-level curricula to suit local needs, thereby making learning more meaningful and effective for students.

A major function of this wing is the development of teaching-learning materials (TLMs), including textbooks, workbooks, digital resources, and activity-based learning modules. These materials are designed to promote child-centered pedagogy, experiential learning, and inclusive education practices. The wing also supports teachers by providing innovative and need-based resource materials to enhance classroom teaching.

The CMDE Wing places strong emphasis on assessment and evaluation practices. It develops tools and strategies for both formative and summative assessment, ensuring that evaluation is continuous, comprehensive, and competency-based. The wing also trains teachers in modern assessment techniques, helping them to better understand student progress and learning outcomes.
